Pursuit of collaborative university-industry research in the area of flat-panel electroluminescent displays resulted in the graduation of 30 M.S./Ph.D. students, ~15 graduate student summer jobs, 4 students working for Planar after graduation, ~80 publications, and ~$4M of research funding. The OSU/Planar collaboration was used as an example of how to undertake university/industry collaborative research in the initiation of the Phosphor Technology Center of Excellence when it was founded in 1993.
  • 2001–present: Transparent electronics research. Our work on transparent transistors has resulted in a significant amount of media attention, including an interview on National Public Radio’s Talk of the Nation Science Friday as part of a program entitled "Future Electronics," and interviews leading to articles in the Wall Street Journal, IEEE Spectrum, Wired Magazine, MIT's Technology Review, and Materials Today as well as radio broadcasts on Science Update, Imagine That!, and CBS News Radio. We have signed a licensing agreement for our technology with Hewlett-Packard. Each year we participate in the Midsummer Conference Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering portion of the Saturday Academy Program, in which we expose high school students to transparent electronics and tour our clean room. Each year we sponsor an EECS senior projects related to transparent electronics.
